Proposed Rule Revisions for Educator Preparation and Accountability (REPA)

Family Voices would like to thank Jill Smith for sharing this opportunity for families to give input on the Proposed Rule Revisions for Educator Preparation and Accountability (REPA).

From Jill Smith:

Did you know that the Proposed Rule Revisions for Educator Preparation and Accountability (REPA) cannot be amended without your comments? As it now stands under the current proposal, there would be no early childhood licensure, which we believe will be detrimental to the quality of care and education that young children will receive. Please review REPA as posted on the Indiana Department of Education's website, then respectfully encourage the Professionals Standards Board to take these actions:

Establish licensure in Early Childhood Education specific to children from birth to age 8; and
Establish an early childhood special education (interdisciplinary) license specific to children from birth to age 8

You can communicate your support of these licenses by attending one of the public hearings below (be sure to type out and print your comments, along with your name and contact information to give to the Professional Standards Board) or visit:
http://mustang.doe.state.in.us/dg/repa/Eval.cfm - Please be sure to note your Indiana AEYC membership. Comments submitted via the web will be accepted through October 30, 2009.

Remember, without your encouragement, the early childhood license and early childhood special education license recommendations cannot be incorporated into REPA!

Public Hearing Dates:

October 27, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at Rochester High School, 1 Zebra Lane, Rochester, Indiana;
October 29, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at Scottsburg Middle School, 425 South Third Street, Scottsburg, Indiana
November 2, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at the Indiana State Library, Historical Reference Room, 315 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis, Indiana
