Upcoming Powerful Parents Mtgs. You must RSVP

DDRS has reinvigorated the Powerful Parents Groups throughout the state as a grass roots effort to meet face-to-face with parents and families of adults and children with developmental disabilities. Our purpose is to disseminate information, gather feedback and stimulate bonding among parents. Through these groups, DDRS hopes to: make DDRS plans and initiatives more transparent in how they affect consumers and familiescreate a network of family contacts within BBDS districts, including more rural areasshare information on available resources for familieslisten to how DDRS can make connections for consumer and family needsUpcoming MeetingsAll meetings are from 6 to 7:30 pm local time unless noted otherwise. INDOT to Hold ADA Advisory Group Meeting on Oct. 10

Comments to be Accepted on INDOT’s ADA Transition Plan
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will hold a meeting of its Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Community Advisory Working Group on Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Indianapolis Public Library College Avenue Branch located at 4180 North College Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205. The meeting is open to the public and INDOT encourages interested persons to attend.
During the meeting, INDOT will introduce the 10 newly selected members of the ADA Community Advisory Working Group, provide a brief overview of the ADA and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and schedule quarterly meetings of the working group for 2013.

The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Service (DDRS) has posted the PowerPoint presentation and questions and answers from the Provider Webinar on Sept. 26, 2012 to the DDRS website on the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) webpage.  This information covers changes to the  Medicaid Waivers concerning Case Management, Transportation, Structured Family Caregiving and Participant Assistance and Care (PAC).

Important info regarding DD forum about waivers-you MUST register by 10/4

There will be a public forum next week where individuals will have 4 mins to share their concerns with the DD commission:
Public Forum about changes to DD waiver system October 9 at 10:00 A.M.   Room 404 of the State House
The time limit is4 minutes, and families are required to have their names on the agenda.  The deadline to be added to the agenda is tomorrow, Oct 4. You must contact  Susan Kennell at 317-234-2104 and get your name added to the agenda if you plan to speak.
The Commission will hear testimony from families and friends of individuals who are receiving services from the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services.

Appeals court strikes down Indiana's Medicaid dental cap

Family Voices Indiana shares this court decision with its members so they can be aware of the court's decision. It is important to note that children do not fall under the cap. However, some of our members have Medicaid themselves, or adult children with Medicaid. It is unclear if FSSA will appeal. We will keep you informed of any changes.

Indiana's social services agency can't set a cap on the amount of money the state pays people on Medicaid for dental services if the treatment is medically necessary, a federal appeals court has ruled.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago this week upheld a preliminary injunction granted by a federal judge in South Bend that blocked the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration from enforcing a $1,000 annual limit on dental coverage. The agency had established it as a cost-cutting measure in 2011.
