Information for Families being Switched to #Medicaid #Disability

Family Voices Indiana has been getting calls from families being auto-enrolled in Medicaid Disability/MASI due to the fact that their child receives SSI.

We have previously posted information that families have freedom of choice to remain on HHW if they are eligible and not receiving home and community based services through the waiver program: http://fvindiana.blogspot.com/2014/04/information-about-freedom-of-choice.html
We sought clarification from FSSA about what families should do to remain on Hoosier Healthwise if they are eligible and wish to do so:
Individuals do have the option to opt for another category of Medicaid if eligible.  To make this request, families should contact the Division of Family Resources (DFR).  Families can contact their local DFR office by logging on to: http://in.gov/fssa/dfr/2999.htm and entering their zip code, or search by county.  Families can also contact DFR by telephone at 1-800-403-0864.

We hope that you will be able to join us and join in the discussion about the Healthy Indiana Plan 2.0 proposal and other important health care issues facing Hoosiers.
The next event will be held tomorrow in Bedford, Indiana. You can find details of that event here. We will be updating this web page whenever we firm up details of other events. We will try to periodically inform you when there are updates as well.
The events will be led by different officials, but those leading the sessions will include William VanNess, M.D., Indiana State Health Commissioner, Debra Minott, Secretary of the Family and Soc…

New Rules for #HCBS waivers

Family Voices Indiana shares the following information about new Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver rules from Medicaid.gov: CMS’ definition of home and community-based settings has evolved over the past five years, based on experience throughout the country and extensive public feedback about the best way todifferentiate between institutional and home and community-based settings. Based on the commentsreceived on the ANPRM and the proposed 1915(c) rules, and the comments received on the 1915(i)and 1915(k) proposed rules, CMS is moving away from defining home and community-basedsettings by “what they are not,” and toward defining them by the nature and quality of participants’experiences. The home and community-based setting provisions in this final rule establish a moreoutcome-oriented definition of home and community-based settings, rather than one based solely on asetting’s location, geography, or physical characteristics. The changes related to clarification ofhome and…
