Introducing Our Newest Specialists

Family Voices Indiana is dedicated to serving families across Indiana. We recently hired two new specialists we'd like to introduce:

Katie Flege-Friedericks and her husband Will reside in Indianapolis with their 4 year-old son Colin. Katie’s passion for helping others led her to pursue undergraduate degrees at Indiana University in Public and Nonprofit Management, serve two terms with AmeriCorps, and work in both the public and nonprofit sectors. A desire to empower communities by providing information resulted in Katie earning a Masters in Library Science from IUPUI, and she recently became a substitute reference librarian. When Colin was referred to First Steps for a speech delay and feeding difficulties at 18 months-old, their family began a journey that led to an autism diagnosis and navigating various therapies from speech and OT to PT and ABA. The family has been strengthened by their involvement in Colin’s cooperative preschool. They also enjoy spending time together by hiking, exploring museums around Indianapolis, and taking road trips. Katie is excited for the opportunity Family Voices is presenting for her to bring her professional experiences together with her personal experiences as a mother and strong desires to learn and help others.

Sally Martin is our specialist for Southern Indiana area/New Albany/Evansville.  She and her husband Ryan live in Santa Claus in Spencer county.  Sally has three children, Samuel 15, Rachel 12, and Gabriel 10.  Gabriel suffered a stroke before his birth which caused his Spastic Quad Cerebral Palsy.  Gabriel also was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis 1, epilepsy, hydrocephalus, and brain tumors.  Her family has endured numerous medical situations with Gabriel including life flight, chemotherapy/cancer treatment, equipment needs, multiple surgeries, therapies, and hospitalizations.   Sally's background includes work as a Developmental Communication Therapist for First Steps, parent representative for local LPCC meetings, and member of an NF Support Group in Evansville as well as attending multiple NF Forums around the country.  She is excited to share information with other families of children with special health care needs.
