JJMF Virtual Music Therapy for Families

  From CNF's Weekly Announcements and Opportunities Newsletter 2.16.21 Join the June Jessee Memorial Foundation online to enjoy a virtual group music therapy session hosted by Maria Carron, founder of Midwest Music Therapy. Upcoming sessions are on  Feb. 27 and March 27. Maria is an experienced music therapist specially trained as a Neurological Music Therapist. YASA is looking for a few more youth leaders!

YASA, the Youth as Self Advocates Project of Family Voices (formerly KASA, Kids as Self Advocates), is seeking youth with disabilities and/or chronic health care needs, between the ages of 13 and 26 to serve on the all-youth volunteer Advisory Board.       They are leaders in their communities, and  help spread helpful, positive information among their peers to increase knowledge around various issues. They also help health care professionals, policymakers and other adults in our communities understand what it is like to live their lives and they participate in discussions about how to help each other succeed.      YASA is looking for youth who want to help continue building a dynamic national community and who are looking for opportunities to develop strong leadership skills.    In the last year, YASA members participated in a “Youth Perspective on Transition” video story project with the Council of State Governments,  joined youth advisory workgroups for two telehealth projects; the

Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital Network to integrate Trauma-Informed Care Model

The Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital Network, which consist of the six state psychiatric hospitals, is enhancing their recovery models of treatment with the integration of the Trauma-Informed Care model. This is being done in an effort to improve the delivery and receipt of psychiatric health care for our fellow Hoosiers with mental health and substance use disorders. Trauma-Informed Care assumes that an individual is more likely than not to have a history of trauma. TIC recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role trauma may play in an individual’s life. The model embraces cultural, policy and communication methods that support a trauma-informed environment to provide an environment of safety, trust, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, cultural humility, and responsiveness.  You can read more about Trauma-Informed Care here. Augmentative and Alternate Communication Needs Survey

Old Dominion University researchers are seeking guardians of children aged 3-9 with augmentative and alternative communication needs for communication to participate in a study related to guardians’ experiences of stress and support. Communication modalities can include, but are not limited to gestures, body language, sign language, facial expressions, sounds, words, pictures, objects, photographs, writing, communication boards/books, and speech generating devices. Marketplace Special Enrollment Period

From Covering Kids & Families of Indiana   The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have announced a special enrollment period (SEP) of February 15th - May 15th for the  Healthcare.gov   Marketplace. Consumers can apply for coverage or update an existing application. Consumers have 30 days after submitting an application to choose a plan.  Coverage will begin the first day of the month following the date of plan selection. Current enrollees can change to any available plan within the same level of coverage as their current plan. Consumers are not required to provide documentation of a qualifying event (e.g. loss of a job or birth of a child).  CMS will be promoting the SEP with paid advertising and direct outreach to consumers in English, Spanish and other languages.  Data collected by   Health Reform: Beyond the Basics  shows that in Indiana 70% of consumers qualified for the Premium Tax Credit and 42% qualified for
